According to MacGeneration, Apple has recently shifted its focus towards acquiring companies active in the field of artificial intelligence. In its latest move, the tech giant has acquired at least two AI-focused startups, bringing their technologies and workforces under Apple's umbrella.

One of the companies Apple has acquired is called TrueMeeting. This company’s technology allowed users to scan their faces with their iPhones and create AI-generated avatars. TrueMeeting claimed that it could create an ultra-realistic digital twin of the user.

TrueMeeting’s CommonGround Human AI technology was capable of integration with communication tools like video conferencing platforms and various applications. So far, neither Apple nor TrueMeeting has commented on this acquisition. It seems likely that Apple purchased this company to further develop the Personas feature in its Vision Pro headsets.

It appears that Apple finalized the acquisition of TrueMeeting in late 2024, as seen in visionOS 26, where Vision Pro devices started offering users much more natural-looking Personas—possibly a direct result of TrueMeeting’s technologies.

Around the same time, Apple also acquired a company called WhyLabs. This startup specializes in monitoring large language models (LLMs) with the goal of preventing or reducing AI hallucinations. WhyLabs also provides solutions to address security issues such as the misuse of generative AI.

In one of its promotional videos, WhyLabs illustrated how a customer service chatbot might accidentally expose a user’s delivery address—and how WhyLabs’ technologies can help hide or remove such sensitive information.
